Interested in becoming a Red Cross disaster responder?donate-photo-11

These 5 core curriculum classes must be completed to provide you with the skills you need to effectively respond to natural and man-made disasters that occur in our area. These are offered over a 7 week period with one session each week.

 

•  Fulfilling Our Mission: Translating Your Compassion into Community Action – Introduces potential disaster volunteers to the role of the Red Cross in the community’s actions in preparing for, responding to and recovering from emergencies and disasters.

DATE:  Wednesday, September 8, 2010, 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

 •  Mass Care: An Overview – Provides an overview of the activities performed by the Mass Care group on a disaster relief operation. These include Sheltering, Feeding, Bulk Distribution, and Community Programs.

 DATE:  Tuesday, September 14, 2010, 5:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

 •  Disaster Assessment Basics – Introduces the critical role of disaster assessment, explore related preparedness tasks, learn how to collect and communicate disaster assessment information & become familiar with how disaster assessment information supports management and service delivery decisions.

 DATE:  Tuesday, September 21, 2010, 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

 •  Shelter Operations/Simulation – Provides participants with knowledge of Red Cross policies and procedures for setting up, running and closing a shelter during a disaster. Simulation offers an exercise in completing this task.

 DATE:  Tuesday, September 28, 2010, 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and 

Wednesday, October 6, 2010, 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

 •  Client Casework:  Providing Emergency Assistance – Trains Red Cross caseworkers how to conduct effective client interviews and provide appropriate assistance to help meet the client’s immediate disaster caused needs.

 DATE:  Tuesday, October 12, 2010, 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and

October 19, 2010, 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

The disaster training classes below are available to volunteers who have completed the 5 core curriculum classes.
