Financial Development Specialist

The Financial Development Specialist is a new part-time position and results from strong revenue growth in grant awards, and direct mail and major gifts through effective stewardship. Under the guidance of the Director of Public Support, the Financial Development Specialistís major focus is grants management and United Way applications. This position will be responsible for researching and writing grant applications and coordinating the grants management and reporting process. It will also be responsible for the United Way applications across the eight-county chapter area. The position is budgeted for 20 hours per week. The hours will be determined in collaboration with the Director of Public Support based upon application and report deadlines.   

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Research grants within the eight-county chapter area. 

2.     Develop and implement the annual grants plan to achieve targeted financial goals in Scott, Muscatine, and Louisa counties in Iowa and Rock Island, Henry, Mercer, Whiteside and Bureau counties in Illinois.  

3.       Work with program staff to develop grant applications and manage grant awards.  Maintain the grant records so that there are no exceptions during the audit process. 

4.       Assist the Director of Public Support in the writing of United Way proposals. 

5.       Coordinate potential regional grants with Regional Development Officer. 

6.       Performs other duties as are necessary in the overall accomplishment of the job or that are from time to time assigned by the Director of Public Support or the Chief Executive Officer.  

QUALIFICATIONS 

1.       Experience with grants research, writing, and management in a nonprofit organization or a corporate setting. Experience could be paid or volunteer.  

2.                  Strong organizational skills. 

3.                  Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

4.                  Ability to respond creatively and diplomatically to conflicting priorities.  

5.                  Demonstrated aptitude in working with both diverse populations and donor groups. 

6.                  Computer skills preferred: Microsoft Office Suite. 

7.                  Bachelorís degree or commensurate experience.   

8.                  Flexible schedule.  

9.                  Valid Driverís License and ability to travel when necessary to accomplish the goals of the job.

Instructors

American Red Cross seeks outgoing, flexible, patient instructors for CPR classes.  Part time day/weekend/evening availability.  Training provided to qualified candidates.  EOE

Training is offered on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is 3 days long.

Candidates should have a good comfort level with CPR and First Aid skills

Flexible availability is a plus; particularly during daytime hours

Candidates should have some type of experience in training or leading group activities
